Adipex


Adipex is a brand name for Phentermine Hydrochloride. It is manufactured by GATE Pharmaceuticals. Adipex is a prescription drug which is used for the treatment of obesity and excess weight disorders. It is a drug similar to amphetamine. It is an appetite suppressant, which acts on the central nervous system to control the appetite. And for this reason this is a drug of choice for people with morbid obesity or with risk of serious health conditions like heart diseases, kidney dysfunction, diabetes and hypertension.

Adipex comes in tablet forms 30 and 37.5 grams. Adipex is classed as a controlled substance with the US and is only available on prescription. It is usually recommended that Adipex be taken for no longer than a period of a few weeks without a break.

Mode of action of Adipex:

How to take Adipex:

  • Taking Adipex together with other diet medications such as fenfluramine (Phen-Fen) or dexfenfluramine (Redux).
  • Allergies to Adipex or other stimulants.
  • Heart disease or high blood pressure.
  • Arteriosclerosis.
  • Overactive thyroid gland.
  • Glaucoma.
  • Agitated or anxiety state of the patient.
  • History of drug or alcohol abuse.
  • Epilepsy or another seizure disorder.
  • Diabetes.

Drug Interactions:

  • Hypertension medications.
  • Insulin.
  • Oral Diabetes medications.
  • Guanadrel (Hylorel).
  • Guanethidine (Ismelin).
  • Antidepressants such as Citalopram (Celexa), Escitalopram (Lexapro), Fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), Fluvoxamine (Luvox), Paroxetine (Paxil), Sertraline (Zoloft), Amitriptyline (Elavil, Etrafon), Amoxapine (Ascendin), Clomipramine (Anafranil), Desipramine (Norpramin), Doxepin (Sinequan), Imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil), Nortriptyline (Pamelor), Protriptyline (Vivactil), or Trimipramine (Surmontil).
  • Certain minerals, vitamins and herbal medicines may also react with the Adipex.

Side Effects of Adipex:

The patients using drugs are always susceptible to certain side effects, these may be mild side effects or of serious nature. The less serious side effects are:

  • Feeling nervous or anxious.
  • Headache.
  • Dizziness.
  • Tremors.
  • Insomnia.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Unpleasant taste in mouth.
  • Diarrhea and/or constipation.
  • Itching.

Serious side effects may include:

  • Chest pain.
  • Swelling in the ankles or feet.
  • Fainting or feeling light-headed.
  • Feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion.
  • Fast or uneven heartbeat.
  • Unusual thoughts.
  • Irrational behavior.
  • Feeling restless or confused.
  • Increased blood pressure along with severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, and seizures.
  • Allergic or hypersensitivity reactions which may have symptoms of its own including hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
  • Symptoms of over dosage can include: restlessness, tremor, hyper reflexia, rapid respiration, confusion, hallucinations, panic states, fatigue, depression, arrhythmia, hypertension or hypotension, circulatory collapse, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps.
  • Fatal poisoning usually terminates in convulsions and coma.

Adipex can have some serious side effects and fatal outcomes if not taken properly and with care. The dosage should not be adjusted by the patient. This drug should only be used if the doctor prescribes it and the instructions should be strictly followed.
